FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often does a fire alarm system have to be inspected in Ontario?
The Ontario Fire Code requires fire alarm systems to be tested annually to CAN/ULC-S536, with monthly checks carried out in between. Sprinkler and standpipe systems follow their own weekly, monthly and annual schedules under CAN/ULC-S536 and NFPA 25. If you are not sure where your building sits, choose “Not sure, help me work it out” on the form and we will map the schedule for you.
What is CAN/ULC-S1001 integrated testing, and do I need it?
CAN/ULC-S1001 is the integrated systems test: it verifies that the fire alarm, sprinkler, elevators, HVAC, door hold-opens and every other life safety system behave correctly together, not just individually. It is required for new construction and after significant renovations or system upgrades, and it is increasingly requested by authorities having jurisdiction on existing buildings.
How soon can you attend?
Routine inspections are typically scheduled within a few weeks depending on the season, and year-end is the busiest period. If a system is in fault or an inspection is already overdue, call 289-200-5617 instead of using the form; the line is staffed 24/7 response.
Do you inspect buildings outside the GTA?
Yes. We are based in Oshawa and work across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area as our core territory, with project and inspection work throughout Ontario.
What happens if you find deficiencies?
They are documented in the report with a recommended priority and a price to correct them. Because we hold both the electrical licence and sprinkler fitters in house, we can close them out ourselves, so you are not left coordinating a separate trade to finish the job.
Can you take over an inspection schedule from another contractor?
Yes. Send us your last inspection report through the form and we will pick up the schedule from where it stands, including any open deficiencies the previous contractor left behind.
